DRA-800 8-channel Analog/Digital Audio Converter

The DRA series provide users with multi-channel data storage and sampling rate flexibility. Data acquired by the DRA series is recorded onto standard Digital Audio Tape or Audio Compact Disk depending on the recorder connected (audio DAT or audio CD recorder).

The digital link between the DRA instrument and the digital recorder is performed with a double cinch cord (supplied). Once this connection is done, the system is ready for recording.

Main advantages

¤  The user can benefit directly from very rapid development of the audio technology for his digital recordings.
¤  The same DRA interface can work with DAT or CD recorder.
¤  Possibility for direct data transfer to the computer through:
• our optional GPIB interface and DatVIEW software (for DRA +
DAT); a standard computer CD drive and the supplied BioTools software (for DRA + CDR)

Introduction

Front panel description and functions
¤  Power switch : On and off
¤  Sampling frequency selection switch : 48kHz for DAT and 44.1kHz for CD.
¤  Voice panel : Connect the microphone to the small jack input. Adjust the « threshold » to avoid recording of surrounding
noise. When the Led indicator is lightened, the sound is recorded. For playback a headphone set has to be connected.
The +/- button permits to adjust the volume.
¤  TTL1 panel : The IN (BNC) connector permits you to record a binary logic signal (0V or 5V) for synchronization of
recordings. The OUT connector permits you to playback the signal. The sampling rate of the TTL1 signal is 48 kHz for DAT
    or 44.1 kHz for CD.
¤  Left and right data recording panels :
¤  Gain switches : Each channel has individual gain switch 1 or 10.
¤  Led indicator : Each time the channel is receiving or playing back a signal, the Led is illuminated.
¤  Channel selector left and right : With these buttons, the number of left and right channels is selected. The sampling
frequencies are listed in the table below.

No. of selected channels Sampling frequency (fs in kHz) DAT/CD Bandwidth DC to: (in kHz)
Left channels 1 48 / 44.1 20
2 24 / 22.05 10
4 12 / 11.025 5
8 6 / 5.5125 2.5
Right channels 1 48 / 44.1 20
2 24 / 22.05 10
4 12 / 11.025 5
8 6 / 5.5125 2.5

Note : The DRA-400 left and right channel number is limited to 2 (2x2 total channels) - The DRA-800 left and right channel number is limited to 4 (2x4 total channels)

Data In/Out BNC connectors

DRA-400:
4 BNC for data In,  4 BNC for data Out.
DRA-800:    8 BNC for data In,  8 BNC for data Out.
DRA-1600: 16 BNC for data In, 16 BNC for data Out.

Inputs: Absolute maximum input voltage is 15Volts. Input impedance is 100Kohm. The full scale input signal range can be set
to +1V (gain 10) or 10V (gain 1) full scale.

Outputs: Output is fixed at +/-10V full scale. This means if a signal was recorded at 1V full scale setting, the input/output gain
              is ten.

Bargraph indicator: The DRA-400 is equipped with one bargraph per channel whereas the DRA-800 and the DRA-1600 are
equipped with one bargraph and one « bargraph-channel-selector ».

Monitor output: The DRA series provide one monitor output that reflects the signal output selected by the « monitor selector ».
