Extracellular Amplifiers

EXT amplifiers from npi are designed for low noise recordings of extracellular electric signals. All amplifiers are designed as modular systems to enable customized signal processing configurations. Models include: analog displays for potential, variable gain up to 10k, offset and capacity compensation and tunable highpass/lowpass filters. Most systems are equipped with a small headstage with high impedance differential inputs to suppress noise and other distortions.

EXT-10C
Fast Amplifier

EXT 10-2F
Amplifier/Filter

EXT-08
8-Channel Amplifier

The EXT-10C has a differential input with high input resistance to avoid noise and the incoming signal can be compensated for offset and capacity of the microelectrode by the two potentiometers OFFSET and C-COMP. An analog balance monitor makes the control of offsets easy. The recorded signal can be obtained either AC with GAIN of 100, 1k or 10k or DC with GAIN of 10, 100 or 1k. An optional NOTCH filter eliminates 50/60 Hz noise. The system consists of a module for the EPMS-07 system and a small headstage.

The EXT-10C is designed to be used with the DPA-2F amplifier/filter module from npi which combines additional gain stages with high- and lowpass filters.

The EXT 10-2F has a differential input with high input resistance to avoid noise and the incoming signal can be processed in several ways, optionally including elimination of 50 Hz or 60 Hz noise respectively using a four pole notch filter. The output voltage signal is available either filtered with variable gain or unfiltered with an amplification factor of ten. The system consists of a module for the EPMS-07 system and a small headstage.

Two LEDs indicate whether the amplifier is running out of its linear range and an analog balance monitor makes the control of offsets easy.

The EXT-08 was designed for performing low noise recordings of small extracellular signals in slices or in vivo preparations using fine tipped glass or metal microelectrodes. The system consists of a module for the EPMS-07 system and a small headstage.

EXT-16
16-Channel System

Two EXT-08 amplifiers are combined with eight PA-2S amplifiers in two EPMS housings to get one 16-channel extracellular recording system. The system is completed by one INT-20M and one INT-20 MX breakout box modules for convenient data acquisition using a computer with CellWorks  (ask for detais).

Both EPMS housings consists of one EXT-08, four PA-2S amplifiers and one breakout box modules. The data are measured via the EXT-08 amplifiers, amplified by the eight PA-2S amplifiers and linked internally to the breakout box modules. Therefore, for connecting a data acquisition board to the system, only one cable between INT-20M and INT-20MX and one cable to the computer is necessary. Complex BNC cabling is not required any more.
